Bayou
Bayou is estimated to be a Breeding Stock Paint mare between 9-14 years old and judging from her condition, it's not been an easy life for this sweet girl. Rescued from a local auction, Bayou had facial wounds from poor fitting halter, horribly overgrown feet, overgrown teeth that had never been floated in her lifetime (has caused wave mouth), saddle and cinch scars.
Within a few days she had had her teeth floated and her feet trimmed. Unfortuntately, due to the gross neglect, she will probably need another floating in 4-6 months and her feet will need a couple more trims to get them right. The facial wounds are healing nicely within a matter of days.
Most importantly, Bayou is very sweet and respectful. Despite all she's been through, she calls out to you when she sees you. She's already won the hearts of the Toby's Legacy volunteers and we are looking forward to her being rehabilitated so that she can be tested under saddle. Due to her wonderful temperament we are guessing she is well broke. We'll see...
UPDATE: Bayou needs to have her second floating done soon, but is UTD on deworming and vaccines. Her hooves are now the proper length and she has begun training. Donations needed for her second floating and chiropractic work (due to her hoof neglect and being ridden in that condition prior to arrival, she has muscle soreness as her she rehabilitates). Bayou has been evaluated under saddle and is found to be pretty easy-going. However, you can tell that she has been treated harshly in her past (harsh bits and spurs were likely used). Whenever any pressure is applied to her mouth or sides, she gets nervous and even though she does not do anything bad, we are working with her to overcome those emotional scars. Bayou is making leaps and bounds in her progress and we are confident she will relax and forget about her mistreatment all together.
UPDATE 10/25/13: Bayou has progressed nicely with her training. She is easy going under saddle and on trail. She has gained confidence and would be great for an advanced beginner rider or up.
Bayou is currently in foster with Lilia and Becky Marodi. If all goes well they will be adopting her!
UPDATE: Bayou is staying with Becky and Lilia FOREVER! Yay! Congratulations Bayou!
