Dulcinea

Dulcinea came from the Kauffman, Texas processing center. She, along with 95 other donkeys, were destined to load on a truck headed for Mexico to be slaughtered. I didn't have a choice who would be saved. How do you decide who lives? I just requested one be saved. She was transported to a holding facility, along with four others saved, to await transport to their homes. It was there we discovered they all had pneumonia and all emaciated. Two of the four donkeys succumbed to illness. Dulcinea fought and after three rounds of antibiotics she was healthy enough for travel. She arrived to TLER with a body score of maybe 2. He hooves were so badly overgrown and neglected that she walked on the sides....and she is pregnant. Poor girl. First priority was to address her hooves. She had them trimmed but it will take several trims, at least, to correct the damage. In a month she has managed to almost reach goal weight. With that, her belly is HUGE and we expect her to foal within the month. She is as sweet as can be and seems to understand we are here to help. She allows me to treat her fly strike legs, she tolerates a fly mask. she halters easily. Hard to believe her and her unborn baby were so close to not making it a couple of times. She is safe now and we can't wait to welcome her baby into the world. Stay tuned!
Dulcinea gave birth to a big healthy, happy, baby boy 7/24/15. His name is Milton Burro
