Ensign James
Ensign is currently in need of a sponsor as he is rehabilitated. Can you help?

Lisa Bone, founder of Toby's Legacy, was contacted after a friend acquired a horse named "Winchester" through an ad sight unseen. The ad described Winchester as a 20-year-old Warmblood and stated he was previously used as a lesson horse. When he arrived and his condition was discovered: a body score of 2, overgrown feet, bad teeth, and leg wounds, Lisa's friend quickly realized she did not have the resources to rehab him and Toby's Legacy quickly stepped in.
Shortly after his arrival, Winchester's tattoo (P48086) was read and he was discovered in fact to be "Ensign James" a 27-year-old Off-Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) who raced three times back in 1998.
Ensign quickly received the care afforded to new rescues: farrier, teeth floating, worming and vaccines (if needed) and he is now up-to-date on everything. Ensign has completed his rehabilitation. He is gorgeous. You would never know he is 27 years old! He is broke to ride and beginner friendly in arena. However, it doesn't appear that Ensign has spent much time out on trail. He would require an advanced rider for that.
Ensign gets very nervous being turned out in the arena by himself. We discovered that he enjoys when we just open his paddock gate and let him roam the property. He never goes far and stops to say hi to all the residents. When it is dinner time Ensign puts himself away. He is just a doll. He found a friend in lilac. Such an odd couple. She is a 2 year old quarter pony. He is an elderly OTTB, but they are inseparable. Truly best friends.
Ensign was such a pillar at TLER. 6/7/15 Ensign was found with a shattered left hip. It was so unexpected and unexplainable. To say I wasn't prepared to say goodbye would be an understatement. our gentle giant was so very loved and will be missed...most of all by Lilac, his best friend.
