FRANKY
Franky is a 2 1/2 year old Andalusian and was found by Auction Horses Rescue in Central California on 5/3/14. His owner stated that he was two years old and had, at some point, broken his jaw. The owner said he just didn't have the heart to euthanize. So, Franky sat in squalor, slowly starving to death, because he was unable to chew food. When I saw his photo I just knew I had to bring him to Toby's Legacy. His face called my name. So, the plan was set in motion and Franky arrived 5/6/14 with a BS of 1, overgrown hooves, and obvious facial deformity. Dr. Moss came out and did X rays of Franky's head. It was determined he had received some sort of blunt force trauma in his youth fracturing a growth plate. This fracture caused his jaw and head to grow malformed. He presents very similarly to a wry nose horse but with limited Jaw mobility. We immediately started Franky on a soft diet comprised of soaked pellet and senior with rice bran. He gets free fed alfalfa. Although he cannot chew the stems, Franky enjoys 'grazing' and is able to eat the leaves and flowers from the hay. He is absolutely thriving and gaining weight quickly. We have high hopes that Franky can go on to live a long quality life without limitations (except for diet!)
UPDATE: 6/8/14 Franky was found to be a cryptorchid and will be going in for abdominal castration on 6/10/14
UPDATE: Franky is a happy, healthy gelding. He has joined the pasture herd and is thriving. He will always require mainly a soft food diet but is ready to find his forever home. This handsome boy has smile to melt your heart and is an in your pocket type. We think that his malformed jaw (and consequently his right nostril) will make using a bit and hard riding impossible. That being said, he could make a wonderful bitless easy riding trail horse. We love this boy and know you will too.
UPDATE: Franky is currently in training and will complete his first 30days 2/10/16. He is easy going and seems to prefer a bit. He will continue his training until adopted.
Couldn't be more excited to announce Franky's adoption. Congratulations to Franky and the Olvera family!!!!!
