Marley
Lisa Bone, co-founder of Toby’s Legacy was contacted by Animal Control regarding “Marley.” Animal Control had been called out to a residence where they found her starved and neglected. The owners agreed to relinquish her to Animal Control in order to avoid having charges pressed. A volunteer couple offered to transport Marley to the ranch, but after several hours and attempts left unsuccessful. She had no plans to go in a trailer! On August 5, 2012 Lisa went out with a friend and found Marley standing in a 24x24 chain-link pen with no shelter and no other horses in sight. Marley had a shaggy, matted coat and dreadlocks for a mane. Her disposition was sweet, but sure enough, even after trying every trick in the book over the course of four hours she refused to load. Lisa and her friend were sweaty and dirty; Marley had laid herself out on the ground from exhaustion. Just as they were about to throw in the towel, Lisa’s friend said: “She wants to do it. Give me 15 minutes." Okay! Timer set. The trailer was backed up until the bumper was flush with the ground to make it as easy as possible to step in. Just then Marley’s owner walked up and simply stated: “She is afraid of the dog.” The owner was referring to the cattle dog that had been begging, barking, pleading to help the whole time. Worried he would be kicked, “Lobo” the dog was initially held at a distance. Let off leash, Lobo ran up, nipped her hind leg, dodged her kicked, nipped again, and Marley jumped in the trailer. Lobo walked off with that, “I told you so!” look.
Marley arrived with a body score of 1-2. She is a dark bay Thoroughbred. Marley has a great personality, stands for the farrier, at the rail, and for baths. She needs work trailering – bring your own cattle dog! She is middle horse on the totem pole in a herd. Her very willing personality would lend her to be a great show horse. Marley has a few rides under her belt and will continue with training until she is adopted. She is green-broke and should go to an intermediate or experienced rider.
You must come meet this gorgeous mare!
Marley is healthy, sound, and available for adoption. She is broke to ride and most appropriate for a confident intermediate rider. Even if you can't adopt, would you to consider sponsoring Marley's rehabilitation in the meantime?
Marley had a tragic accident in the pasture when it rained(11/27/16). She slipped in the mud and broke her leg. We had to make the most difficult decision to let her go. I will never be able to explain how special she was, how special they all are. She was far too young and one in a million. Absolutely devastating. I will always love and miss her.
