Meet Mouse
Mouse was adopted March 2012

"Mouse" was a member of a herd of 50+ Arabian, Hackney and Arabian/Hackney cross horses in Anza, CA seized by Animal Control. The owner had left the horses in pasture to breed freely. The horses were fed only straw which contains no nutritional value and received no medical attention, not even meeting their basic needs such as teeth floating, vaccines, trims or dewormings.
Toby’s Legacy agreed to rescue one of the horses. “Mouse” was a six-year-old Arabian/Hackney cross and a tiny bay at only 13 hands. She arrived with a body score of 1-2, shaggy coat and very overgrown feet. She had never been handled and was feisty. Lisa, co-founder of Toby’s Legacy, learned that Mouse was originally found partnered up with a blind Arabian and appeared to have been his guide. Sad to learn Mouse had been separated from her companion, Lisa investigated into his whereabouts and learned he went on to become a wonderful therapy horse for disabled children. Fortunately, Mouse immediately bonded with Cali, another Toby’s Legacy rescue.
After Mouse’s medical needs were met and she was at a healthy weight, Toby’s Legacy hired a trainer in order to make her more adoptable. She is so smart! By Day 3 Mouse was under saddle and having her first ride. Not only did we find out how smart she is, but she was becoming such a love and she couldn’t get enough attention. In typical Arabian fashion, Mouse had an attitude and would show it by comically throwing her head around.
In March 2012, Toby’s Legacy responded to an ad for a person looking for a pasture mate for her retired mare. Lisa gave the woman a call; she came out to meet Mouse and it was love at first sight and she was adopted.
