Norma Jean and Pedro
Norma was an unexpected arrival. My mom, grandma, and I took a road trip to Fallon, Nevada too pick Charlie up from the feedlot. Well, this lovely lady of a mule was his inseparable sidekick and support. So, one became two. Stubborn is an understatement. we are still earning her trust and have gotten to the point where we can halter her. We will, more accurately, be able to age her when she is floated, but appears young. She is very sweet but unsure. Sounds crazy, this is my first experience with a mule, but I think she is the smartest one here. That includes me. She is nurturing to the horses when they need it. protective to the horses when they need it. She is wise. She is healthy other than hooves need a trim.
Update: Norma's trust in us is growing. She is halter broke now but needs work with picking up her feet. She has befriended the donkeys and is inseparable from Pedro. They may have to be adopted out together.
Well, Norma has been adopted out twice and displayed aggressive behaviors both time, causing her return to the rescue. We just don't see that behavior here and have decided she would do best staying as a sanctuary mule. She is best buds with Pedro and Donkeyotie. So, they will stay as well.
