Meet Stella
Stella was Adopted on 9/22/2012!
On
June 6, 2012, Auction Horses Rescue was given $300 by Toby’s Legacy and
directed to “Save a horse.” After outbidding the Killer Buyers, “Stella,” a 6-year-old
Belgian Draft cross (probably with Quarter Horse), was purchased for $275. Stella
stands 16.1-16.2 hands. An employee at the auction said that Stella was trained
to drive but not broke to ride. They also suggested that at some point she was
trained to be a bronc horse, although she has never behaved like one. When she arrived she had an expensive set of
driving shoes on.
Stella trailered well but was very scared when she arrived at the rescue. She was incredibly hard to catch and halter. Peg Wozniak, a trainer who generously lends her time to Toby’s Legacy, began working with Stella and she quickly began making headway. Stella became easy to halter, lead nicely, lunged well and picked up her feet. She snorts when she is scared but loves to be loved on and thrives on attention and positive feedback.
Toby’s Legacy is thrilled to share that Stella was adopted by Becky Hasbach on September 22, 2012. Becky was looking for a trail horse, enjoys drafts and trims her own horses. She will continue Stella's training and Stella will enjoy large turn out with other horses and slow grazing all day. This is exactly what we wish for all our rescues!
