Winnie
Sometimes the greatest gift you can give is the freedom from this life and body. Such was the tragic case for Winnie. Winnie was discovered in a pasture by our friend, Beatrice. Emaciated, body score of 1, one eye sunken, large lump on his mandible, facial parlysis, deaf. He needed help. The Wings Program, Inc. offered to take him in and we offered to fundraise. The owner agreed to relinguish and on 6/15/18 he was picked up and brought straight over to the vet. The lump on his mandible had a large hole next to it. Both the lump(after it was lanced) and the hole was filled with granulated tissue, infection, and maggots. Everything was cleaned out, he was given pain meds, and was to stay the night at the hospital. His condition began to deteriorate even more and his facial paralysis made it next to impossible to eat. Under the recommendation of the vet, Winnie was released, given a dignified end under a willow tree. A necropsy was performed and a very large cancerous tumor was found that spanned from his eye, up around his eardrum, and almost to the hyoid bone. We had made the difficult but right decision, and Winnie was freed from suffering. RIP Winnie. Your life mattered and we love you.
